In our culture, Christianity is generally accepted. They may only want a watered-down, judgment-free version of it, but believing in Jesus isn’t usually a problem. In the culture Jesus was born into, Judaism had the same social status. For many, it was an integral part of their lives, and the more outwardly religious you were, the higher you ranked in society.
